Practical travel tips

Getting to and around Bologna

Airport, station, walking and buses: prepare the journey with fewer doubts.

Separate the airport connection, the journey from the station and trips within the city. Different stages may need different solutions. Use these reference points and official links to decide around luggage, arrival time and your apartment’s address.

01

Airport and station: plan the first stage.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi · Bologna Centrale

Marconi Express connects Bologna Airport with Bologna Centrale. At the station, its access is in the Via de’ Carracci entrance hall: follow internal signs, especially with luggage. The onward journey to your apartment needs a separate plan.

Check the operator for tickets, service changes and access arrangements. If you prefer a taxi, consider group size and luggage. Share your arrival beforehand and keep the precise address handy: the apartments do not all share an entrance.

The centre: walk or take a bus.

Via dell’Indipendenza · Piazza Maggiore

Piazza Maggiore, the Quadrilatero and Santo Stefano suit a walking plan matched to your needs. For longer trips or tired legs, consult Tper: the useful bus depends on where you start, not just the destination’s name.

For contactless payment, follow Tper instructions and tap the same card at each bus change. Check rules for multiple travellers and ticket types before boarding. For hills or evening trips, plan the return as well as the outward journey.

Driving: clarify access and parking first.

Centro storico · Zone a traffico limitato

The historic centre includes a restricted traffic zone and areas with different rules. A navigation app may suggest a road your car cannot use. Check current access requirements before passing a gate; parking or an accommodation booking is not automatically a permit.

Contact us to coordinate your arrival and check any garage’s access arrangements directly. Use official information for traffic rules and permits. Once parked, you can organise a central stay around walking and public transport.
